Arsenal legend tips Tottenham to beat Gunners to fourth under one condition

Ian Wright has claimed that Tottenham could beat Arsenal to a fourth-place finish, given the firepower that the Lilywhites have upfront, but only if they find more consistency.

Tottenham’s clash against Manchester United last week was billed as a six-pointer in the race for Champions League qualification and it seemed like Antonio Conte’s men were all but out of the race for fourth when they fell to a 3-2 loss at Old Trafford.

However, Spurs’ 2-0 win against Brighton on Wednesday allied by Arsenal’s loss at home to Liverpool has blown the race for fourth wide open once again, with Tottenham only sitting three points behind their local rivals.

With Arsenal having a tricky fixture list to negotiate, including a North London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Wright believes the race for the fourth spot is wide open.

He remarked that Spurs have the quality in the forward areas to fire them into fourth, should they add a little more consistency to their game.

When asked if the result of the derby could be crucial in the race for the last Champions League spot, the Arsenal legend told Premier League Productions (16/03/22 at 10:55 pm): “Yes, it is.

“It’s one to look forward to. I don’t think it will disappoint too much, the North London derby, especially when there is something on it.

“Tottenham, with what the manager is trying to do, I think, they have the quality to be in there, but do they have the consistency? If they do, then they will probably make it, because of their firepower.

“We saw with us (against Liverpool) if you can keep Saka and Martinelli quiet, then you are probably going to shut us down from an attacking point of view, so we need to find other ways. Other players need to step up. We need to find more offensive power.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Apart from having to come to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Arsenal still have away games left at Chelsea, West Ham, Aston Villa, Newcastle, Southampton and a home game against Manchester United. So, there is no doubt that Mikel Arteta’s side will drop points.

However, none of the other teams in the race, including Spurs, have shown any sort of consistency over recent months. So, the race for fourth is really wide open heading into the business end of the season.
