Tottenham could face competition from Arsenal to land summer free agent

Two of Tottenham Hotspur’s London rivals are set to step up their interest in one Ligue 1 star, who the Lilywhites have reportedly spoken to regarding a summer switch to N17.

With Jonathan David’s contract with Lille running out this summer, there is no doubt that the forward will be one of the most sought-after players of the summer window.

Not many in European football boast of a goalscoring record as good as the Canadian over recent years, and with a number of Premier League sides needing a striker, it is unsurprising that he is becoming hot property.

Some sources have suggested that Spurs have made contact with Jonathan David and his entourage already to enquire about a free transfer in the summer.

Two of Tottenham’s London rivals keen on Jonathan David

A new report by Sacha Tavolieri has now claimed that a number of clubs are now circling over David, with two London clubs in particular ready to step up the Lille man.

One of these is West Ham United, who have identified him as their priority target for the summer, with the Hammers looking to outbid Barcelona for the player.

The report claims that Graham Potter’s men are willing to offer a total package of €20m (£16.5m) in terms of agent commission and salary to the player, which the Catalan club are not able to match.

The outlet adds that Arsenal are also set to enter the race for David, with an offer expected from the Gunners for the player within the next few weeks.

Spurs may pursue David despite Mathys Tel’s arrival

Even if Spurs activate the option to sign Mathys Tel permanently, they are likely to be in the market for a forward in the summer, with there being major question marks over Richarlison’s future at the club.

Jonathan David would undoubtedly be an attractive target for Tottenham, given the experience, quality and versatility that the Lille man offers.
