Arsenal star tries his best to rile Tottenham fans with top four jibe

Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has attempted to rile Tottenham Hotspur fans ahead of the North London derby by admitting that he does not want them to qualify for the Champions League.

Tottenham currently sit third in the Premier League table, three points ahead of Arsenal who occupy fifth spot.

Whilst Tottenham have played the likes of Barcelona and Inter Milan in the Champions League this season, Arsenal have been pitting their wits against some of Europe’s minnows on a Thursday night in the Europa League.

Should Tottenham fail to get the result they need at Barcelona, they will drop into Europe’s second class competition where they could meet Arsenal.

Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham have finished above Arsenal for successive seasons, but Aubameyang seems obsessed that he does not want Spurs to finish in the top four come the end of the campaign.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side will be looking to correct their poor run of form at the Emirates having not won a match there in just over eight years.

He told the Daily Star: “As an Arsenal player, we hope that only Arsenal get into the Champions League.

“But we know it is tough and maybe both teams will go. It will be a great battle.”

When quizzed about Spurs’ impressive form, he added: “The rivalry is too much.

“But we know they are playing well. We know that it will be a tough game but we have to be focused on what we are doing.

“We know that if we want to win we need to work a lot.

“Both teams are playing well in this moment so we feel the atmosphere and the excitement.

“Everybody is talking about this game. It is always special to play a derby.”
