Arsenal stoop to new lows in an effort to take dig at Tottenham

Arsenal have taken a dig at Tottenham’s trophy drought with a subtle dig on their official web store.

The north London pair have had a long-standing rivalry with each other, but the balance between silverware in recent seasons has been somewhat uneven.

Arsenal have managed to claim four FA Cups within the last decade with the 2020 edition Mikel Arteta’s first trophy since becoming the club’s manager.

Meanwhile in N17, Tottenham have faltered in attempting to break what is now more than a 13-year trophy drought, with the club’s last major honour came in the form of a League Cup win over Chelsea in 2008.

Since beating the Blues, Spurs have made three more final appearances in the same competition while also reaching the summit of the Champions League in 2019, but have come away empty-handed on each occasion.

Now, Arsenal have not shied away from letting their fans know about Tottenham’s lack of recent success with a small pop-up mocking Antonio Conte’s side on their store’s website.

When a user’s shopping basket is empty, a line of text pops up on the screen saying: ‘Your basket is as empty as Tottenham’s trophy cabinet.’

Arsenal have since moved to amend the message to a more generic ‘Your basket is currently empty.’

Spurs still have a chance of breaking their drought this season after beating Brighton on Saturday to book their place in the FA Cup fifth round.

They are set to make a trip to Middlesbrough in the next round, who kicked off the weekend’s ties with an upset by knocking out Manchester United on penalties.

Spurs Web Opinion

Arsenal will take every opportunity they can get to take a dig at Tottenham, even if their facts aren’t totally accurate. It would make sense if the club’s trophy cabinet was completely empty, but it isn’t.

The drought has gone long enough, though, and hopefully with Conte at the helm he can instill just how important silverware is.
