Arsenal take sly dig at Spurs after their defeat to Sheffield United

Arsenal took to social media to rub salt into Tottenham’s wounds following their 3-1 defeat against Sheffield United on Thursday.

Some Spurs fans would have been forgiven for being optimistic going into the game, with Sheffield United winless since the restart and Tottenham unbeaten.

The Lilywhites had shown some encouraging signs in their first two matches as they picked up four points without conceding a goal from open play.

However, Jose Mourinho’s men were brought right back down to earth on Thursday by a defensively well organised and hungrier Blades’ side.

The result means that Tottenham’s hopes of finishing in the top four are all but over.

Arsenal picked up a dramatic 2-1 win in an FA Cup tie against Chris Wilder’s men last Sunday owing to a dramatic injury-time winner from Dani Ceballos.

The Gunners did not miss an opportunity to take a sly dig at Spurs after their defeat at Bramall Lane.

They posted the highlight video of their win over the Blades, with the caption: “It’s not easy beating Sheffield United at Bramall Lane. Here’s a reminder of how it’s done.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While our performance on Thursday was disappointing both from an offensive and defensive point of view, I thought we were pretty unlucky to go into half-time a goal down. While the disallowed goal was obviously farcical, I thought we could have maximized the attacking opportunities we had in the first half on another day and taken a lead into half time. Had the scores been even at the interval, it would have been a completely different second half. Despite Arsenal winning last Sunday’s FA Cup tie against the Blades, I thought they were even poorer than we were going forward.
