26 facts about the recent birthday boy, Harry Kane

Harry Kane celebrated his 26th birthday over the weekend. The Spurs striker and England international has had a remarkable career so far and has achieved so much at just 26 years of age.

As of July 2019, Kane has scored 191 goals in all senior matches played and has won the Premier League Golden Boot twice.

These are just some facts about Harry Kane, but there’s plenty more. To celebrate the Tottenham legend’s birthday, here’s 26 facts and stats that you may not have known about.

  1. Born on 28th July 1993

Starting off with the basics – Kane was born on the 28th of July in 1993. In the season prior to Kane’s birth, Spurs finished 8th overall in what was the first season in the Premier League era.

  1. Married to Katie Goodland

In June 2019, Kane was married to Katie Goodland who he had known since childhood.

  1. He is a father to two children

Harry and Katie have two children, both girls. Ivy Jane Kane and Vivienne Jane Kane.

  1. Born 5 miles away from White Hart Lane

Harry Kane was born in Chingford in North London, just five miles away from the famous White Hart Lane. Who would have known he would go on to play for his local team? He was destined to be a Spurs legend since day one.

22. Went to same school as David Beckham

Maybe it’s why Harry Kane is such a good player today. Both Kane and Beckham attended the Chingford Foundation School in North London. Kane was described as a “clever” student and had remarkable football skills from a young age.

21. Rejected by Arsenal youth academy

Most Arsenal fans claim that Kane is one of their own since he was part of Arsenal’s youth academy. Whilst the photos of Kane in an Arsenal shirt aren’t a great look, it wasn’t as if he wore them for long. Arsenal claimed that Kane was “a bit chubby” and subsequently removed him from their youth setup.

In 2015, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger claimed that he was disappointed that the club decided to release Kane, who would later become one of the World’s best strikers.

  1. Played for Ridgeway Rovers as a child

Before joining Arsenal, Kane spent 1999 to 2001 at Ridgeway Rovers – a local club where he lived. After being released by Arsenal after just one season, Kane would then return to the club.

  1. Spent 2004 at Watford’s youth academy

Watford noticed Kane’s talent and selected him to take part in a six-week trial. He was given a game against Spurs, where he was highly impressive. This led to Spurs picking him up.

  1. Kane was initially rejected by Tottenham

That’s right. Not only did Arsenal reject Kane, but so did Spurs. He had a trial with the club, but was not successful. However, after his impressive showing for Watford against them, Spurs decided to claim him back.

At Spurs during his youth career, Kane usually played as a holding midfielder.

  1. Kane grew up as a Spurs fan

Don’t let Arsenal fans tell you Kane was always an Arsenal fan. Due to Kane’s proximity to the club and majority of his family being Spurs fans, Kane claimed he was “always going to be a Spurs fan”.

  1. PFA Young Player of the Year in 2014/15

The 2014/15 season was arguably one of Kane’s breakout years, and because of this, he was awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year award. He had scored 21 goals for the League season.

Interestingly enough, Spurs had a number of PFA Young Player’s of the Year during these years. From the 2011/12 season to the 2016/17 season, Spurs had one of their players pick up the award on five occasions through Kyle Walker, Gareth Bale, Harry Kane, and Dele Alli twice in a row in 2015/16 and 2016/17.

Only five players in the Premier League era have won Player of the Month for two consecutive months, and Harry Kane is one of them.

  1. Fastest Spurs player to reach 100 goals

It took Harry Kane just 138 matches to reach 100 goals, making him the Club’s fastest player to reach the big milestone.

  1. Second fastest Premier League player to reach 100 goals

Kane sits only behind Alan Sherer as one of the fastest players to reach 100 goals. It took Kane 141 League matches t0 put him second on the list. He played 3 matches on loan at Norwich City that contributed to his tally.

  1. Two-time Golden Boot winner

When he won the Golden Boot for the first time in the 2015/16 season, he was regarded as a “one season wonder” by many opposing supporters. But during the 2016/17 campaign, Kane would back up his talent by winning the award again with 29 goals.

  1. First Player since Gary Lineker to score over 25 goals in a season.

Gary Lineker was the last Spurs player to score over 25 goals in a season for Spurs prior to Kane. In the 2015/16 season, Kane equalled Lineker’s record of 25, but beat it the following season with 29 goals.

  1. Scored 191 Goals so far

As of July 2019, prior to the 2019/20 season, Harry Kane has scored 191 goals in his senior career, excluding pre-season tournaments. Unfortunately, this doesn’t include his insane goal that embarrassed ex-Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny in 2019.

  1. Europe’s Top Scorer for 2017

In 2017, Kane was named as Europe’s top goal scorer for the calendar year in 2017. He finished the year with 56 goals, including a hat-trick against Southampton in December that overtook him past Lionel Messi, who finished on 54 goals. Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich was third on 53 goals.

  1. Four loan spells across England

Before well and truly making his mark at Tottenham, Kane was loaned out on four occasions across clubs in England.

For the 2010/11 season, Kane played for half a season at Leyton Orient. In December 2011, Kane agreed to join Millwall for the remainder of the 2011/12 season.

One year later, Kane spent time at Norwich City on a season-long loan for the 2012/13 season. However, on 1st February 2013 Spurs recalled Spurs due to their lack of attacking options. But not long after he was loaned out again, this time to Leicester City for the final stages of the season.

  1. No Alcohol during football season

During each football season, Harry Kane does not drink alcohol.

  1. Known his wife since childhood

Harry Kane and Katie Goodland had been friends ever since they were children. In June 2019, they would become married. When Kane revealed that they were together in 2015, he said that they went to school together and that she has witnessed Kane’s entire career.

  1. Appointed MBE

At the end of 2018 at the 2019 New Year Honours, Kane was awarded the Member of the British Empire (MBE) for his contributions to football.

In his spare time, Kane usually plays golf – a sport that he enjoys fondly.

  1. Major NFL Fan

Harry Kane is a huge fan of the NFL, and was seen attending the 2019 Super Bowl, where he witnessed his friend Tom Brady lift the cup. In 2019, Kane claimed that in “10 to 12 years” he’d love to become a kicker in the NFL.

  1. Chose number 10 Shirt to become part of Spurs history

In 2015, Kane was awarded the number 10 shirt, which “is an iconic number at Spurs” according to Kane.

Kane wanted to follow in the footsteps of Sheringham, Keane, Hoddle, Ferdinand, and Greaves. Kane grew up watching some of these players, who he claimed are his idols.

Harry Kane is one of Tottenham’s very own. On the 8th of June 2018, Kane signed a long-term contract at the Club, committing him to the club until 2024. This means we may not have seen the best of Harry Kane in a Spurs shirt just yet.
