Aston Villa star implies Grealish could leave the club if this happens

Tottenham Hotspur may not have signed a single player in the last 16 months, but that wasn’t through a lack of trying.

Many may remember that Spurs were heavily linked with Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish back in the summer of 2018, and were even said to have put in a bid for the midfield star (Sky Sports).

Since then, Grealish has signed a new deal at his beloved Villa, as well as being made captain for their promotion push (Sky Sports).

Villa now take on Derby County today in the play-off final, with the winner securing Premier League football next season.

However, fellow Aston Villa midfielder Glenn Whelan believes booking a spot in England’s top flight for next year may be the key to keeping Grealish at the club.

Spurs have been rumoured to go back in for the 23-year-old this summer, and it could be easier to tempt him away if Villa fail in their bid to get promoted (Daily Mail).

Whelan said (Daily Mail): “He is Villa through and through. Jack wants to play in the Premier League and he wants to play as high as he can, but he will be the first one to tell you he wants to do that with Villa.

“If we get to the Premier League, it should not be a problem. We all want Jack to play in the Premier League. I am sure it will be the greatest occasion for him if he can captain the team and get us up to the Premier League.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

I was a big fan of signing Grealish up for around £30m last summer, but I haven’t seen enough from him to warrant any more than that. Hopefully, either Derby beat Villa and Spurs can get him on the cheap, or Villa get promoted and we can all see what Grealish can really do at the top level.
