Atalanta claim Cristian Romero has joined Spurs on loan

Atalanta have revealed on the English version of their official website that Cristian Romero has joined Tottenham Hotspur on a loan, which includes the option to make the deal permanent.

Tottenham did not make any mention of the length of the contract or a permanent deal when they confirmed the 23-year-old’s arrival.

Sky Sports had earlier claimed that the Argentine international had moved to North London for an initial £42m fee, which could rise to £47m including bonuses, having penned a five-year deal.

Tottenham have already completed one loan deal with Atalanta during the summer window, following the arrival of goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini last month.

The official Atalanta website stated: “Atalanta B.C. announce that the player Cristian Romero has joined Tottenham Hotspur on loan, with an option to make the move permanent.

“While thanking Cristian for having always worn the Nerazzurri shirt with commitment, dedication and passion in the year spent together and having left an indelible mark in a historic season for the Club, we wish him all the best, both professionally and from a personal perspective, for his new experience in England.

“Good luck, Cuti!.”

It remains to be seen whether this is just a simple translation issue from the Italian outfit in their English version of their site. However, the fact that Spurs also did not mention a contract length during their announcement could add some extra substance to this revelation.
