Atalanta manager makes Malinovskyi transfer admission amidst Spurs links

Atalanta boss Gian Piero Gasperini has admitted that the Serie A club are looking for a player with ‘more suitable characteristics’ than Tottenham target Ruslan Malinovskyi.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Malinovskyi over the past couple of weeks (TuttoAtalanta).

TuttoMercatoWeb reported on Friday that the 29-year-old is destined to leave Bergamo and the North London club could soon begin negotiations for the player.

The report suggested that the Lilywhites could offer Sergio Reguilon to Atalanta as part of the deal to snap up the Ukrainian.

This information was also backed up by Bergamo Corriere, who stated over the weekend that Malinovskyi had turned down Marseille’s approach and expressed his desire to join Spurs.

Bryan Gil is expected to complete a loan move to Valencia before the transfer window closes (Fabrizio Romano) and Antonio Conte confirmed on Saturday that Spurs will be bringing in a replacement for the Spaniard if he leaves (Football.London).

Gasperini has now seemingly confirmed Malinovskyi will depart Atalanta by revealing that the club are on the lookout for a suitable replacement for the attacking midfielder.

The Italian said (via The Evening Standard): “[Malinovskyi] has been extraordinary for us, then over the years there has always been Ilicic, we never thought of finding a player with those characteristics.

“He has been great at adapting, he has done some very good things. But it’s right for Atalanta to look for a player who scores more than six goals.

“He has adapted very well, but it’s right that in the market the club looks for players with characteristics more suitable for the game.”

Spurs Web Opinion

As things stand, it appears like Malinovskyi is the player who is most likely to replace Gil. It seems like that will be the only other addition Spurs will make during the current transfer window. I do not think the club will allow Japhet Tanganga to leave as there is not much time left in the window to find a replacement.
