Atletico Madrid player’s agent reacts to transfer rumours amidst Spurs interest

The agent of reported Tottenham Hotspur target Stefan Savic has played down speculation surrounding the defender’s future and suggested that he is happy to stay put at Atletico Madrid.

Savic has been an important part of Diego Simeone’s backline for the past few years but has seen himself falling down the pecking order this season.

It was reported last month that Jose Mourinho is a fan of Savic and had urged the Spurs hierarchy to make an offer for him this summer (Todofichajes).

It was also suggested that Spurs wanted the 29-year-old to replace Jan Vertonghen, who is likely on his way out of North London.

Mundo Deportivo revealed last week that the former Manchester City man was open to the prospect of leaving the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in search of a new challenge as he was unsure of getting sufficient game time in the Spanish capital.

However, his agent Zarko Pelicic has poured cold water on the speculation about Savic’s future. Pelicic told TuttoJuve: “Stefan has a contract with Atletico until 2023. He is very happy to wear this shirt. For the moment, all he feels it is only speculation and rumours about him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is certainly a pattern among the central defenders we have been linked with so far. Kurt Zouma, Stefan Savic, Guillermo Maripan and Issa Diop are all comfortable playing as a left-sided centre-back and all of them are dominant in the air. It not only suggests that we are after a natural replacement for Vertonghen but also that Jose and the coaching staff view our inability to deal with crosses and win aerial balls as one of our main weaknesses.
