Attacking midfielder reportedly rejects Tottenham’s interest

Tottenham Hotspur have made an approach to Real Madrid in the hope of signing Marco Asensio in the January transfer window.

According to Spanish news outlet Marca (as quoted by Sport Witness), Mauricio Pochettino had identified Asensio as a potential new recruit to his Spurs ranks after failing to bring in any fresh faces during the summer transfer window.

The report from journalist Robert Gomez claims that Tottenham’s approach was rebuffed by the 22-year-old who is determined to remain at the current European champions.

Asensio is struggling to secure regular first team football under new boss Santiago Solari but has “rejected the offer as his only goal is to succeed at Real Madrid”.

The Spanish international has been utilised as more of a player to come off the bench and impact a game rather than from the start. His last start in the league was on November 22nd, during the embarrassing 3-0 defeat at Eibar.

It appears that Tottenham will have to concentrate their efforts elsewhere if they have any plans to recruit new players for next month.
