AVB reveals he was ‘minutes’ away from signing this star at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have been without a signing in over a year now, with the last being Lucas Moura from PSG.

Spurs fans will be dying for some new faces in their squad, something Levy and co will surely provide in the summer with departures imminent.

Tottenham will need to fill a pretty hefty gap left by midfield maestro Mousa Dembele after he left for China in the January transfer window.

Fans may be looking over to Wolverhampton Wanderers with jealousy now as they see playmaker Joao Moutinho performing out of his skin in the Premier League.

Spurs were linked with the then Porto midfielder time and time again around 2012, at the time when Andre Villas Boas was in charge of the Lilywhites.

AVB has now revealed that Tottenham were just minutes away from signing Moutinho from Porto, with the deal going down to the wire before Spurs narrowly missed out.

AVB said (talkSPORT): “I think it has to be Joao Moutinho of course. We were so close to signing him. I think we only missed him by a few minutes.

“We were exchanging information with Porto down to the last minute of the transfer window on August 31 and in the end we missed a great player, which is a pity of course.”
