“Awful signing” – Some Spurs fans blast defender after display

Tottenham defender Serge Aurier has had a disappointing season for the Lilywhites after much was expected of him at the start of the season.

The Ivorian actually began the season as the first choice right back after Kieran Trippier returned late for pre-season after being part of England’s World Cup squad last summer.

However, due to inconsistent performances and injury problems, the 26-year-old soon lost his place to Trippier.

However, Trippier also failed to impress with his performances and came in for a lot of criticism.

It turns out that Aurier’s poor run of form continued on international duty when he started for the Ivory Coast against Uganda in an international friendly on Saturday.

The Spurs full-back gave away a penalty, which was converted by Uganda midfielder Farouk Miya as the visitors ran out 1-0 winners.

Needless to say, some Spurs fans were unimpressed with Aurier’s erratic defending and demanded that the club get rid of him this summer. However, one or two fans did leap to the Ivorian’s defence

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Aurier has failed to live up to expectations since signing from PSG two years ago. However, we at Spurs Web don’t think it will be wise for the club to get rid of both him and Trippier this window and think it will be wise if the club kept him around as a back up for one more season.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. I like Aurier and would be happy to see him, KWP and Foyth battle it out for the RB spot next season.
I don’t want Tripps there, he’s past his best with us and it’s time to move on.

The irony is if we replace Tripps with Wan Bassaka who has had one good season and then given away a penalty on international duty like Aurier last night, so do we slate him and say no!
KWP has been brilliant every time he’s been given a chance, he made one mistake against Barca that lead to a goal but Tripps probably would have make 3 in that match.

Max Aaron’s is untested at the highest level but has gr8 potential.
Meunier is a gr8 RB and is available for £25m or Nelson Semedo is available for £35m so there are good options to replace Tripps that probably should be but I feel Aurier and KWP will be given chances to shine whoever comes in
