‘Awful’ – Some Spurs fans were not impressed by 26-year-old against Palace

Some Spurs fans on social media have called for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to be dropped from the starting eleven following Tottenham’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Antonio Conte started with his favoured 3-4-3 against Palace, including Hojbjerg starting alongside Oliver Skipp in front of the back three and Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Lucas Moura upfront.

All three of Tottenham’s forwards got on the scoresheet as Spurs eased to a 3-0 win.

Apart from the first 20 minutes, the home side were in full control of the game and the match resembled a training exercise after Wilfried Zaha’s sending off in the 37th minute.

However, despite Spurs’ comfortable win, some fans on social media have claimed that the team could be improved by playing Harry Winks in the middle of the park over Hojbjerg.

While some were critical of the 26-year-old’s pressing, others were even harsher, questioning what the Dane does apart from running around and screaming at his teammates.

Spurs Web Opinion

Hojbjerg certainly has his flaws, particularly on the ball and I do believe Skipp has now become more important to the side than the Dane. However, the former Southampton man certainly has some important attributes, including his intelligence and defensive awareness.

I do not understand why some Spurs fans constantly need to be scapegoating one player or the other. Now that some have moved on from the Winks and Dier bashing, Hojbjerg appears to be their next target. We should appreciate the 26-year-old for the qualities he has rather than focus on his weaknesses.
