‘Back on the grass’ – Spurs star reveals his delight at early return from injury

Toby Alderweireld has taken to social media to reveal that he is back in first team training which comes as fantastic news for Tottenham ahead of the all-important North London derby on Sunday.

Alderweireld was withdrawn in the final stages of Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Manchester City with a groin problem, with Jose Mourinho initially suggesting that it looked like a serious injury.

However, the Spurs boss admitted last week that the issue was not as severe as he initially thought and that the Belgian would be back in two to four weeks.

It looks like the 31-year-old’s recovery has been even swifter than Mourinho anticipated as he was spotted training with the first-team yesterday afternoon ahead of the team’s trip to Austria to take on LASK in the Europa League this evening.

Here’s what Alderweireld posted on social media yesterday afternoon:

Joe Rodon proved an able deputy for Alderweireld against Chelsea but the potential return of the Belgian international comes as a major boost to Spurs given the form he has been in over recent weeks.

Mourinho ruled out the prospect of Alderweireld facing LASK but admitted he could return against Arsenal this weekend (Football.London).
