Tottenham produced a thoroughly professional performance to overcome Manchester City 1-0 last evening in the first leg of the Champions League.
Spurs defended resolutely and didn’t look like conceding throughout the ninety minutes.
Pochettino’s game plan worked perfectly as Pep Guardiola’s men struggled to create chances.
While there were several terrific performances from players all over the pitch, one particular player has gotten a lot of praise on social media for his showing yesterday – Kieran Trippier.
The England full-back hasn’t been Pochettino’s first choice at right back in the Champions League this season but started last night’s game with Serge Aurier unavailable due to injury.
The 28-year-old who has been heavily criticised for his performances this season, produced a fine display and managed to mark Raheem Sterling out of the game.
He produced an accomplished defensive display and was a constant threat on the right-hand side going forward.
Here’s how some Spurs fans reacted to Trippier’s performance:
Probably an unpopular opinion but deserves to be acknowledged what a throughly decent performance Kieran Trippier this evening for Tottenham Hotspur.
The player has already admitted he has not lived up to expectation this season however that was a faultless display.#THFC #COYS pic.twitter.com/dWvV6kgY9O

Great man to man marking it looks like Poch has worked on this all week with Trips. Well done @trippier2 for keeping sterling quiet #thfc #COYS

As big a critic as I’ve been of @SpursOfficial REB @trippier2 He played very well defensively v @ManCity last night He still lacks pace & appears to not trust @AlderweireldTob at times But he stuck to the job v the very impressive @sterling7 #COYS
