‘Back to square one’ – Some Spurs fans frustrated after rumoured rejection

Some Spurs fans have been left extremely disappointed to hear from multiple sources that Jules Kounde has rejected a move to Tottenham despite the North London club agreeing on a fee with Sevilla.

Tottenham have been heavily linked with a move for Kounde over the past few weeks and it appeared as if the Premier League club had finally managed to reach an agreement.

Gianluca Di Marzio reported last night that Spurs had agreed on a fee of around €30m (£25.6m) plus Davinson Sanchez with Sevilla for the 22-year-old.

That would have been music to the ears of some Spurs fans as it would have meant that Fabio Paratici had addressed the club’s defensive deficiencies while also managing to cash in on a player who was seemingly surplus to requirements.

However, according to the latest updates, it would appear that Kounde has no interest in moving to Spurs despite the club agreeing on a fee for him.

Marca have claimed that the defender has ‘refused to start a negotiation’ with Tottenham and has made it clear to Sevilla that he does not wish to join a club who are not involved in the Champions League.

The report asserts that the Spurs door is closed for Kounde, who is expecting offers from ‘the upper echelons’.

Sky Sport Italia journalist Matteo Moretto has also backed up that claim, revealing that the centre-back has ‘said no’ to Tottenham despite the club reaching a total agreement with Sevilla.

The player’s rumoured rejection has left many Spurs fans on social media extremely frustrated, with a few questioning why the club are wasting their time if Kounde is not interested in a move.

Spurs Web Opinion

Fans are right in saying that we should move on to other targets if Kounde has made it clear that he is not interested in a move to Spurs.

However, I doubt Paratici and Levy would have taken the trouble of hammering out a deal with Sevilla if they thought there was no chance of the player joining the club. So, there could be more developments on the Kounde front in the coming days and weeks.
