Bad news for Spurs fans as key man reveals he is open to Spanish switch

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has absolutely transformed the club since he took over in the summer of 2014. When the Argentine joined, Spurs were trying to once again compete for the fourth spot, on the back of two sub-standard seasons.

Fast forward five years and Spurs have been involved in several title challenges, and have become Champions League regulars. The Argentine has been able to achieve this despite a lack of substantial investment into the squad.

So, it is no surprise that Pochettino has become one of the hottest properties in world football. The Argentine was said to be Real Madrid’s first choice last summer but turned the Los Blancos down, and extended his stay with Spurs instead.

Madrid have had a poor season so far as they find themselves out of contention in the race for the La Liga title, while also being knocked out of the Champions League and Copa del Rey.

The Spanish giants are once again looking for a new manager, and it has been reported that Pochettino and Jurgen Klopp are two of the names on their wish list.

According to the Daily Mail, Pochettino in an interview to Spanish television network RTVE on Friday said that he would love to move back to Spain one day.

The article quotes the Spurs boss as saying, “My relation with Spain will always be great and I would love to return one day and oversee a brand of football that could win games and excite people.

“Of course I would come back to Spain, I’m always open to new experiences and projects.”

When asked about the Madrid links, Pochettino apparently added, “‘I take it (Madrid’s interest) as something positive, it means someone has noticed that we are doing something right.”

Tottenham fans will be hoping that the prospects of playing at a fantastic new stadium in the coming seasons will convince Pochettino to build a legacy at the club before looking towards new challenges.
