Bale wants to honour Gary Speed

Gareth Bale - Tottenham Hotspur News

Gareth Bale has spoken of his devastation following the death of Gary Speed and hopes Wales can honour him.

As a Welshman I am also devastated by the loss of the national team boss who had appeared to turn around the fortunes of Wales in recent matches.

Many former players and colleagues have been paying tribute to the 42-year-old and Bale has also had some kind words of his own. It is absolutely devastating to hear the news, the amount of tribues Speed has received just goes to show he was a class act on and off the pitch.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Gary’s family at this sad time.

“It was a massive shock, I don’t think anybody ever thought anything like this would happen,” Bale told tottenhamhotspur.com.

“Everyone is devastated and it is a massive loss to everyone in football.

“It is a tragedy, everyone still can’t get their head around it and all our condolences go out to his family and his kids. It is a hard time.”

“We were on the up, he changed the way we play and the whole mentality of our game,” Bale said.

“It is a massive loss, but we will try and carry on the best we can in his honour.”
