Gareth Bale is ‘being shafted’ by Zidane and Real Madrid – Claims former Spurs star

Former Tottenham midfielder, David Bentley has claimed that Gareth Bale is being treated poorly by Zidane and Real Madrid in an interview with 888sport.

Gareth Bale left Spurs in 2013 for a world-record fee of £85m as he set his sights on a  dream move to the Galacticos in Spain (Transfermarkt).

The Welshman has lifted four Champions League trophies since arriving in Madrid, but Bentley claims he is being “shafted” by the Spanish giants.

“I just can’t believe what’s happening to him at Real Madrid. I think Zidane isn’t happy that Gareth scored a better goal than him. It sounds like a personal thing,” Bentley said.

“The thing is Bale isn’t arrogant. He’s quiet. He will eat his dinner and not say much so maybe they then think he’s arrogant and just wants to play golf and not socialise, but he just wants to get on with what he’s getting on with.”

Bentley believes that Bale is worthy of a much more important role at Madrid with starts for the 30-year-old now few and far between – even after the exit of legend, Cristiano Ronaldo.

“It annoys me because I always looked out for him. I watch him still at Real Madrid to see how he’s doing. He’s a lovely boy, well he’s a man now, and he’s done so well for himself. He is so successful yet he’s getting shafted,” he added.

Bale played 203 times for Spurs, scoring 56 times and assisting on 58 occasions, however, it was that 2012/13 Premier League season which he is most fondly remembered for.

The winger swept up all individual awards that season, winning the PFA POTY, PFA YPOTY and the Sports Writers’ POTY award.

We all have fond memories of Bale, however, the stories that come out Spain claim he has a greater interest in his golf than he does in the football nowadays. Without a doubt, the ability he has is undeniable and he is worthy of a starting position.
