Bale’s agent offers an update on Tottenham return

Gareth Bale’s agent Jonathan Barnett has admitted that Gareth Bale’s proposed move to Tottenham Hotspur is close but not a done deal as of yet.

There has been plenty of reports over the last 24 hours suggesting that Spurs are close to reaching an agreement to sign the Welsh winger (The Athletic).

Reports indicate that the Lilywhites will pay around half of the winger’s bumper £600,000-a-week salary to sign him on a season-long loan.

Barnett admitted on Tuesday that negotiations between Real Madrid and Spurs were taking place and that Bale was keen on sealing a return to North London (BBC Sport).

Some reports have even claimed that the move is certain to go through this transfer window (talkSPORT).

However, Barnett has now told AFP journalist Tom Alnutt that the transfer is ‘complicated’. Alnutt also revealed Real Madrid are pushing for a permanent transfer rather than a loan.

Given the good relationship the two clubs have and the La Liga giants’ desperation to move Bale on, it does look likely than an agreement will be reached. There also seems to be a desire from the Welshman’s side to complete the move. Only time will tell if it ends up being a loan deal or a permanent transfer.
