‘Ballon d’Or next’ – Some Spurs fans react as Heung-min Son collects prestigious award

Some Spurs fans on social media have been left understandably delighted after Son Heung-min was declared the winner of the FIFA Puskas Award 2020 for the best goal scored around the globe in the calendar year.

The Tottenham forward won the award for his solo-effort in the 5-0 win over Burnley last season, which came just a few weeks after Jose Mourinho took over as Tottenham boss.

The forward picked up the ball in Spurs’ defensive third and drew the Burnley players in before turning on the after-burners to get away from four or five challenges, calmly slotting the ball into the back of the net past Nick Pope.

The South Korean has started the season in tremendous form, having scored the joint-most goals in the Premier League so far.

It is a sign of how loved Son is by the Tottenham faithful that some Spurs fans were over the moon for the 28-year-old after he won the prestigious award.

Several admitted that it was a privilege to be at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch the goal live.

The award was well deserved for a strike that was the best goal I have ever seen from a Spurs player. It will certainly do Son’s confidence no harm.
