Man City poke fun at their own Champions League defeat to Spurs on Twitter (humour)

Despite the fact that VAR only came into play in the last year or so, Tottenham already have a deep history with the technology.

Perhaps the standout moment in the VAR-Spurs relationship comes in the form of a memorable Champions League quarter-final match against Man City.

Tottenham won the first leg of the encounter 1-0 at the new stadium, with one away trip between them and the semis against Ajax.

The game was a rollercoaster ride for Spurs fans as they went 1-0 down in the early minutes, before going 2-1 up within ten minutes.

Man City then raced ahead 4-2 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate, meaning that Spurs would be knocked out of the competition.

However, Fernando Llorente’s hip/hand goal survived a VAR scare to put Spurs back into the lead on aggregate, with the Lilywhites hanging on until the dying seconds.

Raheem Sterling tapped home a winner to break Tottenham hearts in the 93rd minute, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside on Aguero via VAR.

It seems as if Man City can now finally see the funny side:
