Barcelona defender wants club to sign Lionel Messi and Tottenham midfielder

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has told SportSkeeda that he wants his club to look at signing Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur, along with Lionel Messi.

Bentancur signed for Tottenham last January, arriving from Juventus along with Dejan Kulusevski. The Uruguayan is thought to have cost Spurs just £21.5 million in total (Sky Sports).

That deal has turned out to be one of the best Spurs have made in years, as Bentancur has become one of the most important and most talented players in Antonio Conte’s squad. The 25-year-old quickly formed a strong partnership with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the middle of the Tottenham midfield.

This season, he has gone from strength to strength and even added goals to his game. Bentancur has six goals and two assists in 26 appearances in all competitions for Spurs this term (Transfermarkt).

His last goal came in the 4-1 defeat to Leicester City at the weekend, but that will sadly be the last game he plays all season for the Lilywhites.

It has been confirmed by the club that Bentancur has suffered a ruptured ACL injury which is expected to keep him out for 6-8 months (TNT Sports Argentina).

Spurs fans will be desperate for Bentancur to get back to it next season, but if Barcelona star Araujo had his way, the player would be playing at the Nou Camp next year instead.

When asked what he would do if he was in charge, Araujo said: “If I was Mateu Alemany, I would sign Rodrigo Bentancur and [Lionel] Messi for Barca.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I can definitely see Bentancur playing for one of the top, top clubs one day, but hopefully, we can keep hold of him.

The proof has been abundantly clear this year, that without him, we are a far less competent team.

He brings so much composure and class to our midfield and he will be desperately missed.
