Barcelona star refuses to rule out exit amidst claims Spurs are favourites to sign him

Barcelona midfielder, Ivan Rakitic, who has recently been linked with a move to Tottenham, has admitted that he could leave Barcelona this summer.

Mundo Deportivo reported last month that Tottenham were interested in the 32-year-old, who has just one year left on his contract at the Camp Nou.

The same publication later added that Juventus had withdrawn their interest in the midfielder and that Spurs were favourites to land him.

Spanish journalist, Guillem Balague, suggested that that the Barcelona star would prefer to return to his former club Sevilla.

Rakitic revealed this month that he was happy to stay at Barcelona and honour his contract (Sky in Germany).

However, the Croatian international has now indicated that he doesn’t feel wanted at the Catalan giants and is open to a move this summer. He also added that he would one day like to return to live in Seville.

As quoted by the Daily Mail, the midfielder said: “When parties sign a contract it is with the idea of fulfilling it. Also with the idea that I want to play, but I am calm about it.

“I would have liked that at some point someone from the club had come out to say that Rakitic was staying to end the rumours.

“[President Josep Maria] Bartomeu has not told me anything. Perhaps today he is listening to us and tomorrow he is going to call me.

“I have never closed the doors to making a big change (in my career).

“My family’s future? We will go to live in Seville sooner or later, almost certainly.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Rakitic is the type of player that Jose Mourinho likes given his work ethic, decision making, and tactical discipline. However, I do not see how he fits in at Spurs given our relative abundance of creative midfielders in Lo Celso, Ndombele, Winks, Lamela, and Dele.
