Some Tottenham fans are not impressed by rumours that the North Londoners want to snap up Southampton defender, Jannik Vestergaard in the summer.
Jose Mourinho has tried various combinations at the back this season but all of Tottenham’s central defenders have been guilty of making some poor errors.
The Spurs boss now seems to have settled on a pairing of Davinson Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld as his first-choice but it remains to be seen whether the Portuguese coach views either player as a long-term solution.
The Daily Mirror claim that Spurs are looking to bolster their options at centre-back in the summer and Vestergaard ranks high up in the club’s list of targets.
The report revealed that since the Dane would be down to the final year of his contract at St Mary’s, Tottenham are hoping to get him on a cut-price deal.
However, some Spurs fans are sceptical about Vestergaard owing to his lack of pace and feel that the 28-year-old is not of the quality that Spurs need.
Spurs being linked with Vestergaard again. I'm not very keen on him, isn't a terrible option though and will be fairly cheap. I think he'd be okay under Jose but would be pretty underwhelming and thinking long term, he'd probably become deadwood as soon as Jose leaves

Is he not as slow as a tugboat? We already have Dier

Not particularly excited by this. I agree with @GriffinFtbl in regards to the short term feel of this signing. Defends his box well though, aerially dominant & hits good diagonals. Signing him rules out Botman though. https://t.co/VG0ZdVvCz8

but is he what’s required to improve our squad, or is he yet another acquisition from Poundland’s bargain basement bin. https://t.co/Kp5AUGSF1g

Spurs Web Opinion
Vestergaard has come on leaps and bounds since moving to Southampton in 2018 and he would certainly be an upgrade over what we have at centre-back. I can see why the opportunity to sign him on a cut-price deal would be tempting for Spurs.
However, as some Spurs fans rightly point out, one certainly cannot expect him to be the answer to all our defensive problems. We potentially need two new centre-backs in the summer and it would be a disappointment if Vestergaard is the only one we end up with.
