Bassong expecting rough day from fans

Sebastien Bassong

Sebastien Bassong admits that he is expecting to be booed by the Newcastle fans when Spurs visit St James’ Park this weekend.

Bassong spent a season at Newcastle, but joined Tottenham when the Toon were relegated to the Championship.

“I know I’ll be booed again, but hopefully not too much,” said Bassong. “I was booed against Newcastle in the game at White Hart Lane, but can I expect anything else?

“When you only play for a club for one year, and then you leave I that’s part of football.

“I will never forget what Newcastle United gave me. They gave me my chance to play in the Premier League, and despite the boos, I still won’t forget that.

“I appreciate what they did.”

“Newcastle are a tough team – they have some hard players to play against, like Andy Carroll,” Bassong added.

“They’re going to stay up, for sure. They’ve proved in a lot of games that they have the right amount of skill and ability.

“It will be hard for us. Newcastle also have a new manager in Alan Pardew, and they’re looking well organised.”
