Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal with Newcastle United for Sebastian Bassong.

The 23-year-old central defender will complete his switch to Spurs after he agrees personal terms and passes a medical.

Bassong, a French Under-21 international, who has international aspirations with Cameroon joined Newcastle last summer from Metz and featured 34 times for the Magpies.

A statement on the club’s official website read: “We are delighted to announce that we have reached agreement with Newcastle United for the transfer of Sebastien Bassong to the club, following the player successfully completing a medical examination and agreeing personal terms.”

Bassong will be suspended for the first two games of the season, following his sending-off against Fulham towards the end of the last Premiership campaign.

Have something to tell us about this article?

  1. Bassong should not sign before Monday, as he this way will serve one matchday ban (Newcastle’s game against West Bromwich) for his red card against Fulham (2 matchday bans) last season. Then he will only miss the game against Liverpool for Spurs.

  2. very true ! Common harry get your thinking head on ! Makes sense while we are so short at the back at the start of the season..
