Bayern Munich have emerged as the bookies favourites to sign Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld before the close of the transfer window on August 31.
Although Premier League clubs can no longer sign players this summer, the window for sales will remain open until the end of the month.
Alderweireld had been linked with a move to Old Trafford, but Manchester United and Tottenham’s valuation of the centre-back had been some £30m apart.
However, Bayern Munich are now 6/1 favourites to sign the Belgian star, with Barcelona sitting around 6/1 too. A move to the Camp Nou seems far less likely though, as they already have adequate talent in defence.
Bayern may be looking for a long-term Jerome Boateng replacement, who looks set to leave the German champions.
Hints from Pochettino and Alderweireld himself over the past week have indicated that the defender will stay in North London for at least one more season.
Alderweireld’s contract is available to be extended by one year at the end of the campaign, but this will initiate a £25m buyout clause.
