Belgian journalist reveals further details on Alderweireld’s £25m release clause

Toby Alderweireld’s contract situation has been the subject of plenty of discussion in the media over the past few months (Guardian).

It has been well publicised that when Spurs decided to take up the option of extending his contract until the summer of 2020 in January, it triggered a £25 million transfer release clause.

The clause runs until the final two weeks of the current transfer window, meaning it will expire in fifteen days time on July 25th (Metro).

Respected Belgian football journalist Kristof Terreur has taken to Twitter to reveal further details of the contractual situation which stipulates that if the £25 million fee is triggered, it must be paid in no more than 3 installments and over a period of no more than 2 years.

Alderweireld will return to Hotspur Way tomorrow for his first day of pre-season training with Tottenham and as things stand, it looks like he will be on the plane for our tour of the far east.
