Ben Davies admits Spurs players are all ‘delighted’ for 25-year-old

Ben Davies admitted that the Tottenham players are all delighted for Davinson Sanchez after the centre-back scored the winner against Watford.

In the first few weeks after Antonio Conte arrived at Tottenham, it looked as if Sanchez was going to struggle to get into the starting eleven, with the Italian seeming to have settled on a back three of Davies, Eric Dier and Cristian Romero.

However, Romero’s hamstring injury has meant that the Colombian has been handed a run of starts over the last month and a half and he has certainly grabbed his opportunities with both hands.

The 25-year-old has hardly put a foot wrong over recent weeks and has been part of an extremely tight defensive unit.

Sanchez produced another flawless display at the back at Vicarage Road and stepped up to produce a winner in stoppage time as he met Son Heung-min’s dangerous free-kick with a header from close range.

Speaking after the game, Davies told BBC Sport: “Everybody in the dressing room is delighted for Davinson Sanchez.

“He works hard. He puts in strong performances week in and week out. It’s just a nice way for him to cap it off.”

It was evident from the way the players celebrated the winner at Vicarage Road that Sanchez is a popular member of the changing room.

The 25-year-old has certainly proved his doubters wrong over the past month and a half. It will be interesting to see if Romero walks straight back into the starting eleven when he returns from his injury.
