Ben Davies insists Spurs team-mate is now ‘thriving’ under Antonio Conte

Ben Davies has heaped praise on Ryan Sessegnon on the back of his performances at left wing-back over recent weeks.

After impressing on loan at Hoffenheim last season, Sessegnon would have been hoping to hit the ground running on his return to Spurs this season.

However, a series of injury troubles have once again prevented the 21-year-old from having a consistent run in the starting eleven this season.

Since recovering from his hamstring problem last month, the England Under-21 international has made the left wing-back position his own over recent weeks and seems to be growing in confidence with every game.

The former Fulham man put in arguably the best display of his Spurs career so far at Anfield, picking up the assist for Son Heung-min’s goal and keeping Mohamed Salah quiet for the majority of the encounter.

Davies praised Sessegnon’s performance and admitted that he is delighted to see the youngster thriving under Conte.

The Welshman told Spurs TV: “In his two games v Liverpool, he has been excellent. Can’t underestimate the quality that he is up against. I’m delighted for him. He’s had it tough with injury. The boys are really happy for him, thriving at the moment.”

Sessegnon is still quite raw and has a lot of room for improvement, particularly when it comes to his first touch and composure in the final third.

However, he certainly possesses an excellent engine and has demonstrated that he is a very competent one vs one defender. The performance at Anfield will do wonders for his confidence.
