Ben Davies describes exactly how it feels to lose the derby

Tottenham Hotspur were so close to the perfect week as they lead 2-1 against Arsenal in the North London derby this weekend.

Spurs battled back after conceding early and scored two of their own in as many minutes after growing into the game.

However, after playing two high-intensity games earlier in the week, Tottenham struggled to keep up with the pace in the second half.

Pochettino also made his subs far too late, after the game was already lost for his side.

This marked only Tottenham’s second defeat in the last seven North London derbies.

The result also saw them slip behind both Arsenal and Chelsea in the standings, with Poch’s men going from 3rd to 5th in the space of a day.

Ben Davies had his say on exactly how it feels to lose against your rivals.

Spurs will have to pick themselves up again quickly, with a Premier League fixture against Southampton midweek, as well as yet another NLD later this month.

Davies told the Spurs website: “It’s a horrible feeling losing the derby.

“It’s a very disappointing result but we have to go away, try to get it out of our minds now and focus on the next games coming up.

“They came out of the blocks, but we had a really good go and got back into the game. That’s why it’s so disappointing we let it slip. Those are the games where you sometimes have to grind it out and we didn’t do that well enough.

“You have to deal with the highs and the lows. That’s football. Obviously, losing the derby hurts a lot and it’s about us dealing with that now and trying to put it right in the next few games.

“We have to make sure we pick up three points against Southampton and bounce back straight away.”
