Bent claims Levy could ‘appease’ Spurs fans by appointing 49-year-old

Darren Bent believes that bringing Mauricio Pochettino back to Tottenham is guaranteed to appease the disgruntled Spurs fans.

Tottenham’s pursuit of a new manager still seems quite open, with the likes of Alasdair Gold not ruling out the possibility of the club pulling off a surprise by appointing someone who has not yet been linked with the role.

The Independent claimed on Monday that that some figures at Tottenham are seriously suggesting that it could be worth trying to bring Pochettino back to the club.

The Sun then backed up that claim, revealing that the Argentine is unhappy at Paris Saint-Germain and is seriously considering a return to North London to have a second crack at the Spurs job.

Needless to say, the rumours of a potential Pochettino return left some Spurs fans excited.

Bent insisted that the 49-year-old should never have been sacked in the first place and would be welcomed back to the club with open arms by the Tottenham faithful.

The former Spurs striker told talkSPORT – 25 May, 9.50 am: “For Spurs supporters, getting (Pochettino) back, they’d absolutely love it.

“He did a superb job at Tottenham (before) getting to the end of that cycle. And just when you needed Daniel Levy to put his hand in his pocket and reinvest in the squad, he fired him.

“I was quite surprised I didn’t hear reports saying PSG wanted to replace (Pochettino)! Because when you don’t win the French league at PSG, with the players they’ve got, you have to say something is seriously wrong.

“If Daniel Levy ever wanted to appease the fans and get them back onside, that would be a way to do it (bring Pochettino back).

“If he’s not enjoying his time at PSG, he’s going to want to go somewhere he is going to be loved. And the Spurs fans absolutely love him – they still speak about him now! So I guess it’s an opportunity.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am convinced that Pochettino will be back to manage Spurs one day. However, I just cannot see it happening this summer. He is not the type of character to shirk a challenge and so, I expect him to at least spend a full season at PSG.
