Bentancur jokes he will kick Tottenham teammate ahead of World Cup

Rodrigo Bentancur has joked that he is going to kick Son Heung-min before the World Cup in Qatar, where Uruguay are set to face off against South Korea in the Group Stage.

On paper, Group H looks like it could be really competitive, with Uruguay and South Korea joined by Ghana and Portugal.

Although Portugal look favourites to take the top spot, the three other teams cannot be taken lightly, with all having some top players playing for the biggest clubs in Europe.

Son is undoubtedly Korea’s main superstar and the nation’s hopes of qualifying for the next round will rest, to a large extent, on the Tottenham man’s shoulders.

One man who knows all about the 30-year-old is Bentancur, who has been an ever-present in the middle of the park for Uruguay over the last few years.

The midfielder admitted that he and Son have already been poking fun at each other ahead of their showdown in Qatar.

The former Juventus man told ESPN Argentina: “We always mess around a bit, he (Son) is a crack as a player and as a person.

“I always tell him that a week before I’m going to kick him so he can get to the World Cup half lame, but fine. I am honoured to have him as a partner and he is a great person.”
