Berbatov admits he has been surprised by Spurs duo’s recent performances

Dimitar Berbatov has admitted that he has been surprised by the impact that Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur have made at Tottenham.

Both Kulusevski and Bentancur went from being bit-part players at Juventus in the first half of the season to being mainstays in Antonio Conte’s starting eleven at Spurs.

Kulusevski has added a different dimension to Tottenham’s attack alongside Harry Kane and Son Heung-min, with his ability to carry the ball and with his wand of a left foot.

The Swede registered five goals and eight assists in the Premier League in just 18 Premier League appearances since arriving at the club (Transfermarkt).

Bentancur, meanwhile, has displayed his all-round quality across different phases of play and has brought the best out of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg alongside him.

Berbatov admitted that he did not expect the two players to hit the ground running in the Premier League, and admitted he is excited to see whether Conte can make similar acquisitions this summer.

The former Spurs striker told BBC’s Monday Night Club: “I was surprised at how well both new players, Kulusevski and Bentancur, have done this season.

“I was surprised, given that they came from Italy, are they going to get into the tempo of the Premier League straight away.

“Are they going to fit? But Conte knows exactly what he is doing, getting the exactly the right player to fit into the team. That is why I am curious who is going to come in next.”

In the end, the business we did in January proved to be the difference in the race for fourth.

Bentancur and Kulusevski have both improved us considerably while the likes of Arsenal, Man Utd and West Ham stood still in January.

If we can bring in four players of similar quality this summer, we can considerably narrow the gap with City and Liverpool next season.
