Berbatov backs Spurs to beat Madrid

Ex Spurs striker Dimitar Berbatov is backing his former employers to beat Real Madrid in tonight’s huge Champions League clash between the sides at Wembley.

We sit joint top Group H after an impressive 1-1 draw at the Bernabeu last time out and know that victory in the return game will be enough to secure their place in the last 16.

Mauricio Pochettino revealed on yesterday that he is “very confident” Harry Kane, who missed Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Manchester United and the loss to West Ham in the Carabao Cup with a hamstring problem, will be fit for the Wembley showdown.

And Berbs , who scored 46 goals in 102 appearances during his stint with Spurs, says he saw enough from his old club in Madrid to believe we can now go one better by dethroning the European champions.

“Yes, they can beat Real Madrid,” he said in an exclusive interview with BTSport.com
“The way they performed at the Bernabeu gives me hope they can do something at home.
“People say sometimes Wembley can affect the game Spurs play but I don’t see it like that – Wembley’s a great stadium. So for them, I think they have the advantage.

The Bulgarian added “Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen – this triangle is very dangerous.
“They have a great squad and hopefully Kane will be fit because he’s the guy who will score the goals.”

The veteran striker now plys his trade in the Indian Super League for Kerala Blasters, however he knows all about going the distance in the Champions League.

He was a losing finalist on three occasions – once with Bayer Leverkusen in 2002 and twice with Manchester United in 2009 and 2011.

He was asked if he believed the current Spurs crop can go all the way if, as expected, they ease into the knock-out stages?

“Let me tell you, if they beat Real Madrid they can do something big,” he added.
“If you beat Real Madrid then you’re showing the potential to do that.
“For a guy who used to play there, seeing them lift a cup would be like I’m lifting it again!

“So I am supporting them as always, watching them and hoping they can get to the final – and do something big in the Premier League as well.”

Kind words from Berbatov there, left us under a cloud but still well received and has a place in his heart for us. So do you agree, can be get a famous victory tonight? Who knows what might happen after that.
