Berbatov tells Harry Kane to hit back at critics in foul-mouthed rant

Dimitar Berbatov has urged Harry Kane to hit back at those who were critical of the Tottenham star’s performances in the early stages of the European Championships.

Kane failed to score in any of England’s three group games at the Euros and the Tottenham star came in for a lot of criticism for his performances.

Some questioned the 27-year-old’s fitness while pundits like Jamie Carragher insisted that the Tottenham star’s place in the starting eleven needed to be scrutinised.

As he has tended to for the past seven years, Kane once again proved his critics wrong, scoring four in the knockout stages and playing a crucial part in the Three Lions’ march to the final.

The Spurs star arguably put in his best display of the tournament in the semi-final against the Danes, holding up the ball impressively and displaying his vision by playing a lovely through ball to Bukayo Saka the build-up to England’s opener.

When asked about Kane’s performances in the tournament, Berbatov told Betfair (as relayed by The Metro): “Kane has been excellent in the knockout stages.

“He received some criticism in the group stages but Kane can tell his critics to f**k off.

“Even great players have their ups and downs. Even when he wasn’t scoring he was doing a lot for the team. Now the goals are coming.

“The pressure on him with the penalty against Denmark was immense. You cannot imagine what it feels like to take a penalty with a nation’s hopes on your shoulders.

“As a player you know that everyone is depending on you, even if you don’t want to think about it. It wasn’t a good penalty but he got a bit of luck.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Kane has demonstrated throughout the course of his career that he relishes proving his critics wrong.

Despite all the negative things that were being said and written about him, I do not believe the England captain would have doubted himself even for a single moment ahead of the knockout stages.

I would certainly not put it against him to score a couple in the final and walk home with yet another Golden Boot.
