Dimitar Berbatov has hailed Harry Kane, insisting that the Tottenham star’s passing ability is comparable to that of Kevin De Bruyne.

While Kane has always possessed excellent technique, the striker has adapted his game over the last three years, dropping deeper to pick up the ball. That has enabled the 29-year-old to showcase his vision and passing range.

Additionally, that has not really had an adverse effect on Kane’s goalscoring, with the striker continuing to find the back of the net with regularity.

In fact, the striker’s first-half penalty in the 3-1 loss at Arsenal on Saturday, was his seventh goal in eight Premier League games so far this season (Transfermarkt).

Berbatov spoke in glowing terms about Kane’s ability to feature both as a nine and a ten, while also praising the striker for the journey he has been on to get to the level he has.

The England captain was in the Spurs academy when Berbatov was at Spurs, and the Bulgarian noted how he had to go away on loan to the lower leagues to prove himself.

The 41-year-old told Premier League Productions (01/10/22 at 12:05 pm) about Kane: “He’s very proud of what he has gone through in his career.

“It’s a typical fairytale for a player that wanted to start, nobody was giving him the chance, and then he needed to go to other clubs (on loan).

“And then you find a coach in the face of Tim (Sherwood), who had the courage to put the young boy there, especially when you buy expensive players.

“He took that chance Harry Kane and he never looked back. You see the statistics, sooner or later, he will be top scorer for England, of the club, probably catching Alan Shearer is going to take a bit more effort.

“Overall, he is a number ten and a number nine, even more number ten at times because his way of passing the ball is closer to that of Kevin de Bruyne, in my opinion. Very good passer of the ball.”

Kane is unique among the strikers in world football, given how effective he is in different facets of play. Only Karim Benzema is really comparable to the England captain, which is why replacing him will be almost impossible. Spurs have to do everything they can to tie him down to a new contract.
