Graham Roberts has taken to Twitter to share his blunt assessment of Tottenham Hotspur’s defensive capabilities after watching his former side suffer a 3-1 defeat at home to Liverpool.
Roberts could not understand why Jose Mourinho decided to leave Toby Alderweireld on the bench when he instead picked Eric Dier, Ben Davies and Joe Rodon as a central defensive trio.
The Tottenham defence gifted Liverpool the opening goal in first half injury time when Serge Aurier failed to track the run of Sadio Mane which saw the Senegalese play the ball across the six yard box for Roberto Firmino to tap home after Hugo Lloris and Dier both failed to deal with the cross.
Dier and Lloris was again to blame after the central defender gave the ball away after the break and the Frenchman parried a shot into the path of Trent Alexander-Arnold to power home a right-footed volley.
A lapse of concentration from Joe Rodon saw the champions score their third when the Welshman failed to deal with Alexander-Arnold’s cross which allowed Mane to fire the ball into the roof of the net.
After the loss, Roberts had the following to say:
Think we need a whole new defence can’t understand why Toby not playing best defender we have
