‘Best finisher in the world’ – Reported Spurs target idolises Heung-min Son

Amidst reports linking Lee Kang-in with a move to Tottenham, it has now emerged that the Mallorca star idolises his compatriot, Son Heung-min.

Lee is enjoying an impressive campaign at Mallorca, with the versatile attacking midfielder scoring six times and providing five assists in 32 league matches so far (Transfermarkt).

Tottenham’s interest in the 22-year-old first came to light when Mundo Deportivo (29/04/23 via Sport Witness) revealed last month that the North London club were leading the race for his signature ahead of the summer transfer window.

The publication added that the South Korean’s contract at the La Liga club has a release clause of €30m (£26.3m).

Spurs’ interest in Lee was also backed up by AS (06/05/23 via Sport Witness), who claimed a week ago that the Lilywhites have ‘closely followed’ the midfielder’s progress.

However, the publication added that Tottenham are expected to face competition from Atletico Madrid for the player, with Diego Simeone’s men said to be extremely keen on snapping up the Mallorca star.

It has now emerged that Spurs might have one ace up their sleeve to help them beat Atletico to Lee’s signature – his international teammate Son.

The 22-year-old spoke to Football Ghana during the World Cup and admitted that he tries to learn from watching Son closely in training.

The midfielder is quoted as saying about his international captain back in November: “He is the best player in Korean history.

“He is amazing as a player and the best finisher in the world.

“I am learning a lot from watching him in training, performance, and off the pitch.”

If Tottenham do hold a genuine interest in Lee, getting Son to put in a word would likely help. One would expect the 22-year-old to be keen on following his idol’s footsteps by coming to Spurs.

The Tottenham hierarchy would perhaps be hoping that Son can also help convince Kim Min-Jae to make a switch to North London.
