In his first press conference as the new interim manager at Tottenham Hotspur, Ryan Mason has sent a message to the fans and hopes they will get behind his side when they take on Manchester United this evening.
Mason is once again temporarily in charge of first-team affairs at Tottenham, after Cristian Stellini was relieved of his duties as interim manager earlier this week.
The decision came after Spurs were humbled in a 6-1 defeat by Newcastle United on Sunday afternoon. That defeat saw the hopes of a top-four finish all but ended for the Lilywhites.
Now, Mason will have six games to get things back on track. That mission will start against Manchester United on Thursday night, with the Red Devils visiting the Tottenham Hotspur stadium hoping to boost their own chances of a top four finish this season.
Discussing the fans’ reaction to the defeat at the weekend and what he hopes will happen moving forward, Mason shared his thoughts with Football.London.
He said: “Listen, I have been involved in this football club a long time and my belief is that our fans are amazing and one of the best in the world.

“We want to get them onboard and we want to get them with us.
“The only way to do that is to put in performances that warrant that.
“We understand that and we know that.
“I don’t think there’ll be any doubt that they’ll be with us on Thursday night.”

I really do hope the fans back the team tomorrow and don’t let the resentment of Sunday get in the way.
It was a horrible moment, the defeat against Newcastle, but if we want things to improve, the club, the players, the coaches, and the fans all need to pull together and get behind Mason until the end of the season.
