‘Best partnership in world football’ – Jermain Defoe makes big claim about Spurs duo

Former Tottenham striker, Jermain Defoe has claimed that Harry Kane and Son Heung-min are the best partnership in world football at this moment in time.

Defoe was one of the most potent goalscorers in Tottenham’s recent history, having found the back of the net 143 times in 363 matches over two spells at the club.

Apart from knowing where the net is, Defoe also played with some great forwards during his time at White Hart Lane including the likes of Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov, but it was the partnership he struck up with Peter Crouch that proved to be particularly potent.

However, the Rangers star believes that Kane and Son have taken things to a whole new level as a duo and praised the consistency with which the pair are playing.

Defoe said this on the Mennie Talks Podcast (as relayed by The Independent): “With Kane and Son, what Mourinho has done has been incredible.

“Those two are the best partnership in world football at the minute. The hardest thing that you can do at the top level is to be consistent, so for those two to show that consistency, for me is unbelievable.

“Son is dynamic, so he runs in behind. He gets the ball and he is direct, he beats people.”

The former Spurs star also praised the work Jose Mourinho has done during the little over a year he has spent at the North London club, admitting that the Portuguese coach has proven all of his doubters wrong.

Defoe added: “I think it is understanding the players that he has got.

“Credit to Mourinho because there were a lot of people before he took the job that were thinking ‘no’, but I believe that you should always appreciate greatness because he is a great manager. He is unbelievable.”
