‘Best players in England’ – Robbie Keane backs Conte to help Spurs midfielder rekindle form

Robbie Keane has confidently asserted that Antonio Conte is the man to get Dele Alli back to his best.

Alli’s stock has fallen dramatically over the last few years after he initially burst onto the scene under Mauricio Pochettino following his move from MK Dons.

The midfielder struggled to get minutes under Jose Mourinho last season and, while he was in Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting eleven at the start of this campaign, the 25-year-old was subsequently dropped by the Portuguese coach after Tottenham’s loss to Arsenal in September.

Alli has not started any of Conte’s first three games in charge of Spurs against Vitesse Arnhem, Everton and Leeds, with the Italian deciding to deploy a 3-4-3 formation.

The new Spurs boss has said that he is well aware of the England international’s talent and insisted that he, much like the rest of the squad, will be handed a clean slate.

Keane believes that Conte is the man to help Alli return to the player he was a few years ago.

The former Spurs striker told Sky Sports: “He demands a lot from his players.

“You look at someone like Dele Alli. Two years ago he was one of the best players in England.

“He’s fallen by the wayside since. This is the manager who’ll get him back. 100 per cent.”

I do not see Alli having any part to play in the 3-4-3 formation Conte is currently favouring. Even if the Italian switches to a 3-5-2, Dele will probably be competing with Ndombele and Lo Celso for one spot in the starting eleven. So, as I see it, the 25-year-old’s future is still very much up in the air.
