Antonio Conte has claimed the best solution for Tottenham Hotspur is to remain with the back three formation, despite a couple of poor results this month.
Conte’s trademark back three revolves around advanced wing-backs getting goals and assists, while also kickstarting attacks. However, that has been somewhat of an issue during his time in North London.
The likes of Sergio Reguilon and Emerson Royal had little experience in wing-back roles, while Matt Doherty is out injured and Ryan Sessegnon is still a rather raw talent.
In the recent defeat to Brighton and draw against Brentford, Spurs struggled to advance down the wings, creating a lacklustre and predictable attack.
Conte has now insisted that wing-backs are the best way forward because they have been training in this system for the past seven months. However, with Reguilon now out injured, the Italian is left with few options.
He mentioned that Kulusevski can play at right-wing-back, before hinting at a change of formation if Spurs lost any more players to injury.
Conte said (Football London): “Now we have Emerson and Sessegnon available. I think that during the game Kulusevski can play in that position. I think the best solution is not to change what we know, what we are doing for seven months.
“With this formation, we know the way to play, this formation gives us great satisfaction. But if something else happens – I hope not – from now until the end, I for sure am forced to change something and find another solution.”
Spurs Web Opinion:
I think it is time to put Kulusevski at right-wing-back and bring Moura back into the team. The Spurs attack has fizzled out and Emerson is struggling to influence games down the right side. I would rather take a risk than keep trying to same things over and over.
