‘Best young talent out there’ – Spurs Technical Director is thrilled to land Lucas Bergvall

Johan Lange has admitted that there is excitement at Hotspur Way about Lucas Bergvall’s arrival and insisted that Tottenham want to be one of the most attractive destinations for the best young players in world football.

Tottenham have had success with their strategy of signing budding young talent from across Europe over the last few years, with the likes of Pape Sarr, Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven establishing themselves as key first-team players and well on their way to becoming superstars.

That is a trajectory that the club would hope that Bergvall also follows, with the midfielder being seen as one of the most promising young players in Swedish football at the moment.

Tottenham reportedly saw off competition from a whole host of big clubs from the Premier League and around Europe to land the 18-year-old (Expressen) and Lange has now hinted that the club wish to complete more such acquisitions during the next few windows.

When asked about the signing of Bervall, the Spurs technical director told the club’s official channel: “First of all, we want to be a destination for the best young talent out there and that can be talent coming into our academy in the foundation phase or later and being developed and coming through the academy, or as is the case with Lucas a player that we decided to try to see if we can buy from a club abroad and in this case Djurgardens.”

Tottenham are excited about Lucas Bergvall

Lange outlined the teenager’s attributes as a player and revealed that the club were also attracted by the youngster’s personality.

He added: “Lucas is a very mature player despite him having just turned 18. He’s a box-to-box midfielder who is very good in possession and able to control the game. The same out of possession, he has a great work rate.

“For his age, he is mature as a person and on top of that he has a very good family and support network around him. He has great potential and will join in the summer and be part of the first team squad but then it is just for him to adapt to this new environment and take things step by step.”

Spurs Web Opinion

When it comes to budding young talent, it is very difficult to predict the pace of their development trajectories or if they will sink or swim at the top level.

By the sounds of it, Bergvall appears to be a determined young man and at Hotspur Way under Postecoglou, he will have the ideal platform to fulfil his potential if he is driven to do so.
