Former Denmark international Thomas Helveg has suggested that Mikkel Damsgaard should remain at Sampdoria.
The 20-year-old has impressed in Serie A this term; chipping in with two goals and four assists in 25 matches in all competitions (transfermarkt).
The Daily Star claimed last month that Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United, Leeds and Southampton are all keen on the Dane.
Spurs are said to have asked to be kept informed of developments involving the midfielder, who can also operate on the wing.
Helveg believes that Damsgaard is destined for a big future in football but does not want to see the youngster get carried away and instead is of the opinion that playing under Claudio Ranieri at the Italian side is in his best interests.
He told the Gazzetta dello Sport: “He is a great talent, he will have a big future,”
“Sampdoria is the ideal place to grow and Ranieri is the right coach.”
Tottenham already have a number of promising talents who can operate in a similar position to Damsgaard, namely Jack Clarke.
The former Leeds man should be given the opportunity to break into the Spurs first team next season following his stint at Stoke before we look to recruit similar players from abroad.
