As Tottenham Hotspur are continuing to push ahead with talks over the free signing of Kyle Walker-Peters, his club, Southampton, have just made a confirmation about the right-back’s future.
It was first reported by Alasdair Gold nearly a week ago that Spurs are eyeing a move to re-sign Walker-Peters, who is expected to leave the Saints this summer when his contract runs out.
Since then, the transfer saga has moved very fast, with reports indicating that Walker-Peters has signalled an intention to return to Tottenham.
The same update explained that a return to N17 has emerged as a ‘serious possibility’ for the experienced full-back, with Thomas Frank’s men believing he can offer competition to Destiny Udogie, Pedro Porro and Djed Spence.
Southampton confirm Walker-Peters’ departure on free transfer
Southampton have now confirmed the inevitable, announcing that the 28-year-old will depart St Mary’s when his contract runs out next month.
There was never any suggestion that he was going to sign a new deal at the club following their relegation, but the South Coast side have now finalised that his five-and-a-half-year stay has indeed come to an end.
Following this confirmation, one would only expect the race for the right-back’s signature to intensify even further as Tottenham Hotspur and others battle it out for his services.
Tottenham reach out to Kyle Walker-Peters but face plenty of competition
It was reported by TBR Football just a day ago that Spurs have already reached out to Walker-Peters regarding a return to N17.
However, the update explained that the Lilywhites do not have a free run at Walker-Peters, with Everton, West Ham, Leeds, Fulham, and Wolves also expressing an interest in landing the full-back.
Additionally, the outlet added that loads of clubs from Europe have also signalled an intention to make a move for the England international.
