‘Big motivation’ – Spurs star admits he cannot wait to play Man City first

Lucas Moura has admitted that he is excited about starting the 2021/22 campaign by facing off against Manchester City.

With not long to go until the start of pre-season training, it looks as though Tottenham may finally be close to confirming Jose Mourinho’s successor, with Nuno Espirito Santo reportedly the frontrunner for the job.

Nuno, if he does get the job, and Spurs’ new managing director of football, Fabio Paratici, certainly have their work cut out ahead of next season, with the squad looking in need of a significant rebuild.

It will not be an easy test to begin with for the North Londoners, with the Premier League champions set to be the first ones to visit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on August 15.

Moura has said that he and his teammates will relish the prospect of testing themselves against the best on the opening day.

The Brazilian told Tottenham’s official website: “This game has to be a big motivation for us.

“First of all, we need a good pre-season and to have in our minds a positive start to the season and if we do well against the champions, that can only give us confidence.

“It’s always important to try to pick up points from the beginning of the season.”

Tottenham’s home ground might be filled to capacity for the visit of Pep Guardiola’s side, something that has not happened for a year and a half, and Moura admitted that he is excited about having fans back at the stadium.

He added: “I can’t wait! Football without fans is nothing. I’m just happy we are going in the right direction back to normality again.”
