‘Big surprise’ – Jose Mourinho makes claim about January transfer window at Spurs

Jose Mourinho has now revealed that he would be surprised if Tottenham made any signings in the January transfer market this year.

Spurs brought in seven new first-team players in the summer for their new head coach, with Carlos Vinicius, Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Matt Doherty, Joe Rodon and Joe Hart joining the Lilywhites.

However, Mourinho explained in his press conference today that times are tough for Tottenham Hotspur amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and the club pushed hard to build him a good squad in the last transfer window.

Therefore, The Special One claimed he did not feel as though he had the right to ask for any new players in the January market and is therefore not expecting any. Whether or not he is telling the complete truth remains to be seen.

Some have claimed that Mourinho is looking for a new central defender and a box-to-box midfielder in the winter market (Duncan Castles – Transfer Window Podcast).

Mourinho said (Charlie Eccleshare): “I’m not expecting, no. Times are not easy, the club made a big effort in the summer to try and build a good squad. Honestly, if something good happened for us, it would be a big surprise for me. I don’t feel the right to ask for something.”
